Loren M. West, 80, of Monroe died at 3:25 a.m. Tuesday at his home. He had been in poor health for two months.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Rupp Funeral Home, where Monroe Post 1138, Veterans of Foreign Wars, will have a service at 3 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The Rev Bobby Smith, pastor of the Grape Missionary Baptist Church, will officiate, and burial will follow at Rath Cemetery, Monroe.

Born April 24, 1930 in Goin, Tenn., he was the son of Henery "Newt" and Bertie Z. (Jones) West.
He married Oma Miracle on May 17, 1954 in New Tazewell, Tenn.

Loren was employed as a shop foreman by American Foundry, Milan, Mich., retiring in 1972. He served in the U.S. Air Force from May 2, 1953 to Nov. 22, 1954.

He was a member of the Grape Missionary Baptist Church and served as a deacon. He enjoyed woodworking and became a master craftsman.

Surviving are his wife Oma; children Kathy L. Brooks of Monroe, Robin L. (Matthew) Miller of Monroe, Kyle L. West of Toledo and Lisa A. West of Monroe; grandchildren Fred Brooks, Andy Brooks, Brooke Wilck, Jacob Miller and Justin Miller.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Arthur, John, Ray, Newt and Sherman West, sisters Ethel Evans and Margaret Peck.
