Obituary from the Beckley Post-Herald Thursday October 1, 1959: Mrs. Jennie Dyer Stanard, 71, died Tuesday in a Charleston hospital. Her husband, James Berton Stanard, died in February 1958. She was a sister of Dr. N. H. Dyer, State Health Commissioner. Born in Webster County, she was a daughter of the late Cyrus N. and Sarah Doddrill Dyer, whose families were pioneers in Webster County. The deceased taught school in Nicholas and Webster Counties over a period of 35 years and was a member of the Retiree Teachers Association and the Baptist Church here. She also served as church clerk and superintendent of Sunday School for a number of years. Other survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Charles P. McCabe, Jr. of Charleston, Mrs. Robert L. Richardson of Ripley, Mrs. A. Hamm of San Diego de Cuba, and Mrs. E. Gail Jackson of Alma; a son, James Dyer Stanard of Ripley; and two brothers, Luther L. and John K. both of Webster Springs. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Enon Baptist Church. Burial will be in Groves Cemetery.
