Grace Till Smith JAYNE Connell Daniels Chaney is the daughter of Henry Turner Jayne and Mary Louisa Elizabeth Virginia WOODS Jayne.

"Till Smith" was the name of the midwife when Grace was born. Grace did not much like her name and she used the name "Grace Matilda."

Grace married Levi William Connell on October 25, 1899, in Salem, Dent County, Missouri. They became the parents of Ivy Louise, Esther Lena and Myrtle Ruby. They divorced.

Grace married John Ernest Daniels on February 26, 1907 in Cheyenne, Laramie County, Wyoming. This was a double wedding with Grace's sister, Lena Josephine and Linville Moad Beard.

John owned a dairy farm near Telluride, San Miguel County, Colorado. Grace and John are the parents of John Hiram, Henry Herbert and Margaret Grace. They Divorced.

Grace married Roy P. Chaney who was a conductor on a trolley car in Denver, Colorado. Grace owned a restaurant in Denver for a few years. She did not admire Roy much and they did not live together for several years. Then Grace moved to California where two of her daughters lived. Years later, Roy moved to California. Grace and Roy did not live together but, in the early 1950s, each day Roy took groceries at lunch time to Grace's home and she prepared them both lunch.

Janet Elaine Dean, great-granddaughter of Grace, remembers visiting Grace and her home in California. Janet remembers carnations and raspberries and a fig tree growing in the back yard.

Grace had blue and white dishes with a pattern containing a windmill. The bathroom floor was of small hexagon-shaped tiles in a pattern of white circles with blue centers.

Grace would make popcorn in a skillet on the gas stove. When she lifted the lid to the skillet just a little, popcorn would pop out of the skillet and over the stove. Her little great-grandchildren shrieked with laughter.
