WALKER
John B. Walker, 66, 605 Lakeside Dr., died Thursday (July 2, 1992) in Odessa, Texas.
Services will be held Tuesday at 9 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Ed Williamson of First United Methodist Church and Dick Blenden will officiate. Burial will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Dick Blenden, Richard Vannoy, Donn Mack Mathis, Argene Putman, Basil Smith, Bill Kotz and Tommy Bryan.
Mr. Walker was born Feb. 18, 1926, in El Paso, Texas. He was in the U.S. Army Air Force as a gunner, serving in the Aleutian Theater in World War II, and was discharged in 1946.
He attended S.M.U., Texas School of Mines in El Paso and the University of Arizona, receiving a law degree from the University of Arizona in 1953. He served as assistant district attorney in El Paso from 1953-1955.
After coming to Carlsbad in 1955, he practiced law with the law firm of Stagner, Sage, Walker and Estill until 1972. He served as the Carlsbad City Judge from 1972 to 1976 and as 5th Judicial District Judge from 1977 to 1986.
Walker served as a Pecos River Compact Commissioner for New Mexico, having been appointed by two New Mexico Governors. He served as presiding justice and as a trustee for the BPOE No. 1558 for several years.
He was active in Democratic party politics, serving on the state Central Committee. He was also a member of the Confederate Air Force and the Eddy County Bar Association.
Survivors include two sons, James Boatwright Walker of Carlsbad and John Watson Walker of Irvine, Texas; two daughters, Deanna Kemling of Ashland, Mass., and Mary Lou Davis of Carlsbad; one brother, James F. Walker of Pipecreek, Texas; and three grandchildren.
Memorial may be made to the Eddy County Bar Association and the Carlsbad Foundation.
