"Death of Mr James Caskie - Our community heard on yesterday with sorrow of the death of James Caskie, Esq., one of the oldest and most worthy citizens of Richmond. He died at his residence, on Grace strret between Fifth and Sixth, at 8 o'clock on Thursday evening last, after an illness of nearly nine weeks.

Mr Caskie was born in Scotland about the year 1791, and near about 1806 he emigrated to this country and engaged in business as one of the firm of Carr, Caskie & Co. Being possessed of fine business traits, he was very successful in his business. About twenty years ago he was elected President of the Bank of Virginia, and had continued to fill that position with great ability ever since.

In Mr Caskie's death Richmond has lost one of its best citizens and our commercial circle one of its most valuable and practical members. His life from the time he adoped Richmond as his home has been one of usefulness. Possessed of high intelligence, remarkable sagacity, and great energy, he soon became a prominent and successful merchant, and his purity and integrity of character won him the honor and confidence of his fellow citizens. He was a faithful and leading member of Dr Reid's (Presbyterian) Church, and held his duty to his God above all others. Thus has passed away an excellent Christian, a kind and good man, and a useful citizen whose life has edified and benefited his fellow men, and whose death is a great loss to the community.

His funeral takes place from his residence at 1 o'clock, today."

His siblings are John Caskie, Mary Caskie, Elizabeth Reeve and Euphemia Henderson.
