The following article concerning the death and burial of a former resident of this county was taken from the Farmington, New Mexico, Times-Rustler. Mrs. J. H. RHODES was a fine woman and during the many years she spent in this section, she endeared herself to all.
Mary Addie LOVE, daughter of Pauline LOVE, was born near Carthage, Jasper County, Mo., April 4, 1856, and died at Farmington, N. M., April 24, 1923, at the age of 67 years and 20 days.
She removed with her parents to Crittenden County, Ky., at the age of nine years, where she grew to womanhood.
She was married to John H. RHODES in Livingston County, Ky., December 23, 1875, with whom she lived until her death, for forty-seven years and four months. To this union five children were born, three sons and two daughters, as follows: Dr. W. H. RHODES, of Enid, Oklahoma; Mrs. Nellie BURNS of Golconda, Illinois; Walter RHODES, of Farmington, New Mexico; and Mrs. M. M. CUDD of Greenville, New Mexico. All were present at the funeral except Mrs. BURNS and Walter RHODES.
She made a profession of faith in Christ and united with the Methodist Church when she was a small child, and has ever been a faithful and consistent member during all the years of her life, ever willing to minister to the needs of people about her, and living consistent with the teachings of the Master.
She with her family removed to Dexter, Missouri, in the year 1905, removing from there to Ochiltree County, Texas, in the year 1910, and again removing to Farmington, N. M., in 1920, where they have made many new friends, who held her in the highest esteem as a woman of true Christian principals, and a good citizen of the community.
She was a very faithful and affectionate wife and mother, ever willing to make any sacrifice necessary for the comfort of her family.
She leaves besides her companion, five children, one brother, J.S. LOVE, of Florida, one sister, Mrs. J. W. BOWEN of Rockfield, Ky., and many friends.
The funeral services were held in the Farmington Methodist church of which she was a member by her pastor using as text Rev. 14:13; where many friends gathered to pay their respect to her good life.
