SALEM - Joy was born June 20, 1932, in Amherst, South Dakota, and passed away February 3, 2011.

Joy moved from Amherst to Salem with her family at the age of 12 and graduated from Salem High School in 1950. Joy married Earl "Bud" Lindsay Groh, Jr., in June of 1952 and to this union was born two sons, Brett A. Groh and Page L. Groh. Bud and Joy were married for 57 years prior to Bud's passing in 2009. Joy and Bud loved to dance and were on the Keizer Elks bowling team for many years. She once served as the President of the Salem Junior Women's Club.

Joy worked as a bookkeeper for JCPenney for many years before owning and operating the Sip 'n San Shop in South Salem with her son, Page. After Bud retired, she spent some years cleaning homes and offices and helped friends and acquaintances with estate sales.

Joy was a social butterfly. Her favorite gatherings were with a variety of groups like the Nifty Fifties (Salem High School Class of 1950), the Red Hat Society (Red Hat Divas), and the retirees from Salem's JCPenney store. The light of her life was her grandchildren, Brianne and Jared.

Joy was predeceased by her parents, David and Gladys Curr; brothers, Donald and Cecil; sister, LaVonne; and husband, Bud. She is survived by her two sons, Brett (Brenda) and Page (Robin); and her two grandchildren, Brianne (Steve) and Jared; as well as her sister, Pat Clay, and sister-in-law Dorothy Curr. Joy is also survived by several nieces and nephews and their families who she loved as her own children.

A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, February 12, 2011, 11 a.m. at Howell-Edwards-Doerksen with Rigdon-Ransom Funeral Directors. A reception will follow. Online condolences at www.hed-fh.com.
