He attended Longfellow School and graduated from Oshkosh High
School in 1942. He served his country in the Coast Guard. Richard was a sheriff's deputy of Winnebago County and became the county's first detective for the district attorney and sheriff's department and later a bailiff in Circuit Court.
Richard was an active member of St. Andrew's Lutheran Church: singing in the choir, teaching Sunday school and children's choir, serving Easter breakfast, serving on the church council, making the stain glass windows in the new sanctuary, and helping wherever he was needed or asked to help. He was a Mason for over fifty years and enjoyed many years in Toastmasters.
Dick loved to spend time with his family, sing, fish, play cards, attend to his rose garden, create woodworking projects and golf.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Velois, children Lyn (David) Beck, Julie (Robert) Reinke, Richard (Susan) Guenther grandchildren Shannon (Lori) Rex, Brandon(Marci) Rex, Jamie (Heath) Allison, Benjamin (Mandi) Reinke, Jonathan (Allison) Reinke, Elizabeth (Brandon) Reinke Lundt, Mark (Sabrina) Guenther, Meridith Guenther, twelve great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by daughter Lee Ann Guenther, his parents, brothers Harry and wife Jane, Robert and wife Eleanore, sister Jane and husband Clarence Senderhauf, nephew David Guenther.
Special thanks go out to the staff and chaplains at Mercy Medical Center on Patient Care Unit 2. They provided kind and gentle care to Richard and exceptional support to his family during the last three days of his life.
Visitation will be Monday, January 11, 2010 from 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, 1100 East Murdock Street, Oshkosh. The service will begin at 4:00. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established. Now abides, faith, hope and love. The greatest of these is love.
