Doctor Forest Burkett, 72, of Box 257, Rices Landing, died at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 9, 1974, in Greene County Memorial Hospital. Although not in the best of health his death was unexpected.
He was born April 21, 1902, at Connellsville, a son of Paul and Sara Hillen Burkett. On September 18, 1941, he married Mary Eitner, who survives.
Mr. Burkett had lived for the past 33 years at Rices Landing. He was a Methodist by faith. He had been employed for 21 years at the Clyde No. 3 Mine of Republic Steel Corp. He was a member of Clyde UMW Local 688.
Surviving in addition to his widow, Mary Burkett, are two daughters; Patty and Debbie, both at home; six sons: Robert Burkett, Los Angeles, Calif.; Ronald and Paul Burkett, both of Akron, Ohio; David Burkett, Graysville; Carl Burkett, serving with the U.S. Army at Fr. Ruckner, Ala.; and Ronald Burkett, serving with the U.S. Navy at Norfolk, Va.; 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; and three sisters; Bessie Ball, Jefferson; Goldie Leightner, Rices Landing; and Myrtle King, Carmichaels.
Two daughters and three brothers are deceased.
