Jacob Althouse, Myerstown RD 3, died Saturday evening at the Good Samaritan Hospital. He was 88. Born in Berks County, he was a son of the late Wilson and Mary DeTurk Althouse. He was retired from the Althouse Garage, Avon. A veteran of World War I, he was a member of the 109th Machine Gun Battalion. He worshipped in the United Church of Christ faith. Other affiliations included Quittapahilla Forest 25, Tall Cedars of Lebanon; Mt. Lebanon Lodge 226, F&AM; Reading Consistory and Rajah Temple, Reading; the Lebanon VFW and the Annville American Legion. Surviving are his widow, Stella Fetter Althouse, and these children: Richard, Palmyra; Elizabeth, wife of James Shindel, Lebanon; Theodore, Quentin; Mary, wife of Donald Lane, Waterville, Me., and Vincent, Lebanon RD 2, and 14 grandchildren. Also six brothers, Howard, Womelsdorf; Adam, Reading; Alvin, Avon; Paul, Williamstown, N.J.; Clarence, Fleetwood, and Ralph, Kempton, Pa., and a sister, Mrs. Katie Witmer, Myerstown RD 2. Funeral services were held this afternoon from the Rohland Funeral Home for Jacob Althouse, Myerstown RD 3. He was the husband of the former Stella Fetter. The Rev. William A. Seaman, pastor of Grace United Church of Christ, officiated. Burial was at Grand View Memorial Park. Bearers were Richard, Vincent, Theodore, Alvin, Ralph and Clarence Althouse. Masonic services were conducted Tuesday night at the funeral home by Mt. Lebanon Lodge 226, F. & A. M. [Lebanon Daily News, March 27, 1968, Page 2]
