Enlisted in Co. C. 9th Tennessee Infantry "Southern Confederates" on July 12, 1861 at Union City, Tennessee for 1 year. Wounded at the Battle of Shiloh on April 6,1862 and at Atlanta, Georgia in July 1864. His brother, Augustus A. Templeton served with him and survived the war.
