Marie Shable

Marie Jeanetta Shable, 79, rural Milliken, died Saturday, March 28, at Kenton Manor Health Care Center.

She was born July 30, 1912, to Orville and Gertrude (Brownlee) Orr in Greeley.

Mrs. Shable attended elementary schools in Briggsdale, Greeley and La Salle and attended Champion Academy in Loveland during her high school years.

On Oct. 1, 1933, she married Guy Anthony Shable. She began attending the University of Northern Colorado as a non-traditional student at age 48. She received a bachelor’s degree in education with a minor in music at age 56. She had also attended graduate school for a time. She taught in Seventh-day Adventist schools for seven years and did substitute teaching in District 6 and other Weld County schools. Her husband died Nov. 19, 1979. She managed the family business affairs, which included rentals as well as investments, after her husband’s death.

She was an active member of the SAS Extension Club at Johnstown, the Health and Garden Clubs, Milliken Senior Citizens and the Seventh-day Adventist Church where she had served in different capacities.

Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Joyce Swanson of Aurora, Ill., and Mrs. Ella Jean Albertsen of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a sister, Lila Arnold of La Salle; and six grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Greeley. Interment will be in Linn Grove Cemetery.

Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Seventh-day Adventist Church Worthy Student Education Fund in care of Stoddard Funeral Home.
