Delbert Shable
Delbert W. Shable, 77, of La Salle died Friday, July 23, at North Colorado Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 13, 1916, in Milliken to William Anthony and Maud Edith (Warner) Shable.
On Feb 6, 1944, he married Mary Erma Craven in La Salle.
Mr. Shable was a lifelong resident of the area. He was educated at Daniels Grade School and graduated from Milliken High School. He farmed and raised cattle in the Milliken and New Raymer areas from 1934-50 on his grandfather’s ranches. I 1950 he moved to his present farm and ranched at the Craven-Shable farm at La Salle, now a Colorado Centennial Farm. It has been in the family for 103 years. Mr. Shable farmed in partnership with his sons, Bill, and his grandson, Brian.
He was a member of La Salle Lions Club; Platte Valley Irrigation Board for 49 years, including president for several years; consolidated ditches board for 18 years, and president of the La Salle-Gilcrest Drainage Ditch for 15 years.
Survivors are his wife, Erma Shable of La Salle; a son, William C. Shable of La Salle; a sister, Genevieve Yetter of La Salle; and two grandchildren, Brian W. Shable of La Salle and Kerri D. Shable of Wilber, Neb. Two brothers, Guy and Alva, are deceased.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Allnutt Funeral Service, Macy Chapel. Interment will be in Linn Grove Cemetery. Friends may visit from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the Macy Chapel.
Memorial gifts may made to National Jewish Hospital in care of Macy Chapel.
