CLARENCE ISOM DIES SUDDENLY AT WORK HERE:

The Mount Vernon Register:February 12, 1957

Clarence Elmer Isom, of RT 3, Mt. Vernon, collapsed and died suddenly from a heart attack at 2:45pm Monday while at work at the Missouri Pacific Freight House at Ninth and Casey Streets. Mr. Isom was a section worker. He was 53 years 10 months and 22 days of age.

Coroner Ray Heflay conducted an inquiry and returned a finding of death from natural causes due to a heart attack.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00pm at the Methodist Church in Waltonville, the Reverend E.L. Gilley will be officiating and burial will be in Knob Prairie Cemetery. Friends may call at Myers Funeral Chapel at 6:00pm today. At 1:00pm Thursday the body will be taken to the church to lie in state until the funeral hour.

Mr. Isom was born March 19, 1903, in Jefferson County, the son of Ira Isom and Zula (Clampet) Isom. In 1927, in Mt. Vernon, he was married to Anna Hunter and she survives. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance Employees.

Other survivors, besides his wife, are one brother, Nelson (Inez) Isom of Waltonville, two sisters, Mrs. Fern (Tom) Atkins of Waltonville and Mrs. Gusta "Gusty" Lackey of Sesser, two half brothers, Bernard Braden of Mt. Carmel, Illinois and Clifford Braden of the United States Army, two half sisters, Mrs. Eudene (Holly) Dees of Waltonville and Mrs. Geraldine Louise "Jerry" (Tommy) Williams of Fulton, Missouri.


Clarence "Elmer" Isom of Jefferson County, Illinois, passed away February 11, 1957.

He was born near Waltonville on March 3, 1903, the son of James Ira Isom and Zula (Clampett) Isom Braden.

He was one of nine children, four Isom siblings, Nelsom Isom, Myrl (Merle) (Isom) Martin, Fern (Tom) (Isom) Atkins and Gusty (Isom) Lackey and four Braden siblings from his Mother's second marriage, Bernard Braden, Eudean (Holly) (Braden) Dees, Clifford Braden all of Waltonville and Geraldine "Louise" (Braden) (Tommy) Williams of Fulton, Missouri. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.


He was preceeded in death by his parents, James and Zula Isom, one sister, Merle Martin, four nephews, Lowell Atkins, Charles Dale Isom, Ulan Ray Isom and Sargent Wendell J. Martin.
