Florence was a matriarch of a five generation family all living in the Portland area. She passed away Feb. 1, 2011, at age 99. Born in Dilworth, Minn., to James and Minnie Nelson, Florence's childhood was spent near south Sacred Heart, Minn. In 1937 she married Curnel Lewis Evensen in Van Nuys, Calif., and they returned to Minnesota to operate the family farm. It was here that their sons, Arlan, Wayne and Clint were born. In 1952 the family moved to Portland where their only daughter, Connie Florence, was born. Curnel passed away in 1972. Florence married James Muldoon in 1977. Florence enjoyed sewing, bunco parties and dancing. She enjoyed cooking for her family and canning salmon caught by her son, Wayne. She volunteered much of her time at the Providence Child Center. James Muldoon passed away in 2000. She is survived by her sister, Mildred Peterson; children, Arlan (Jeanne), Wayne (Lorraine), Clint (Marian) and Connie Skoglund (Mark); five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. A celebration of her life will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011, in St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 5415 S.E. Powell Blvd., Portland. Private interment will be in Lincoln Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Florence's memory to St. Mark's Lutheran Church.
