HIRAM, Ga. - Lourie Strickland Allen, 96, died Jan. 28, 2011, at her residence. Services were today at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Dr. Allen Simpson officiating. Burial followed in Masonic Cemetery.

Mrs. Allen was born Jan. 12, 1915, in Kossuth, to the late Edward and Belle Bynum Strickland. She was a graduate of Blue Mountain College and received master's and doctorate degrees from the University of Alabama. She taught English at Amory High School and at Mississippi University for Women, and was a member of First Baptist Church in Amory and Meadowood Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Keith Allen Sr.; sister, Hazel Moore and brother, J.B. Strickland; and three half-sisters and brothers.

She is survived by her son, Sam Allen of Hiram, Ga., and stepson, Keith Allen of Amory; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Don Leech, Frank Finney, Tommy Tapp, Curtis Lewellen, Gene Haney and Bobby N. Reeves. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Missions Fund, P. O. Box 540, Amory, MS 38821.
