According to land records researched by Marcia Lynn Hartles Dunnahoe, wife of Charles Ronald Dunnahoe, great grandson of James Jackson and Sarah Jane Hays Ausley, J. J. Ausley owned 35 acres of land in Freestone County in 1900; in 1901, 1902 and 1903 the same 35 acres of land was listed in the name of Mrs. S. J. Ausley. Presumably, this meant that J. J. Ausley probably died in 1900-1901. Additionally, he is listed as head of household in the 1900 Freestone County, Texas census, Justice Precinct 6, dated June 13,1900
