Mae Dell attended school in McAlester and after graduating she married Orville Dalmont on Feb. 12, 1942. She went to work at Wood's Drug Store and while her husband was serving in World War II she worked at the McAlester Prisoner of War Camp. When her husband returned from the war, they moved around to different ranches around Oklahoma then to Hobbs, N.M., until 1953 when they moved back to Oklahoma. She went to work at J.C. Penney's until her sons were born and then when they reached high school, she went back to work at Penney's until she retired in 1989. At that point she loved taking care of all the grandchildren. She was a longtime member of the North A Street Church of Christ. She passed away at the age of 87 at McAlester Regional Health Center. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Gene and Cheryl Dalmont, of Scipio, and Kent and Tracy Dalmont, of Scipio. Also, seven grandchildren, Amy Dalmont, of Stillwater, Cole Dalmont, of Scipio, Kelsey and Brice Dalmont, of Eufaula, and Heath Dalmont, Jordan Palmer and Jenna Palmer, of Scipio. And, four sisters and one brother-in-law, Josephine Ashcraft, of Tulsa, Delores Johnson, of McAlester, Lucille Allen, Bentonville, Ark., and Aynthia and Derrell Kirk, of McAlester, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband on Aug. 10, 2010; her parents; two brothers, Alfred Crawford and Joe Edward Crawford, and a sister, Dixie Crawford. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, 2011, at Brumley-Mills Chapel with the Rev. Gerald Heggie officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester. Pallbearers will be Cole Dalmont, Brice Dalmont, Les Johnson, Billy Vaughn, Tracy Adam and Darrel Johnson.
