Mary M. Avedikian,, a longtime music teacher in the city school system, died, leaving a sister-in-law, Doris Avedikian of Stoneham, nephews and nieces. Her brother, Stephen Avedikian of Somerville, died last May. She was born in Somerville, daughter of Hagop and Margaret (Kouchian) Avedikian, and later lived in Chelsea.

She studied with Alfred Krops, assistant concert master of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and later with Richard Burgin, concert master of the BSO. She earned a bachelor's degree in music from the New England Conservatory of Music, Boston, in 1949. She earned a master's degree from Boston University School of Fine and Applied Arts in 1951.

Miss Avedikian began her teaching career in Caribou, Maine. She was later a music teacher in Northboro, Berlin and Southboro. She began her teaching career in Worcester in 1956 as an elementary schoolteacher, traveling among Worcester schools. She retired in 1989.

An accomplished violinist, she also played solo concerts at Jordan Hall in Boston, and New York City, Philadelphia and Cleveland. She also played in the New England Conservatory Orchestra and the Civic Symphony Orchestra in Boston. Miss Avedikian was a member of the Worcester Orchestra, where she played the violin for many years, and the Music Guild of Worcester County.
