BE TUESDAY

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon at the Church of Christ, Fox and Lake, for George Bell, 54, Carlsbad real estate operator and civic leader, who died Saturday at McAllen, Tex. Burial will be at Carlsbad Cemetery.

Arrangements were held up for some time because of the serious injury of Bell's daughter, Mrs. Helen Major of Las Vegas, Nev., who was hurt in an automobile accident this morning near Carrizozo while en route to Carlsbad with her husband and son for her father's funeral.

The son, Ronald, 13, also was injured in the accident. A brain specialist was reported en route to Carrizozo to assist in care of Mrs. Major.

Bell was a resident of Carlsbad for the past 14 years. He was born in Waller County, Tex., May 18, 1900. His residence was at 707 West Jackson.

Bell, a long-time realtor in Carlsbad, was married to Nettie Selman on June 2, 1940.

During the period from April, 1942 to April 1948, he served as a member of the Carlsbad City Council.

Active in civic affairs, Bell was a member of the Church of Christ, the Lions Club and the IOOF.

Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Nettie Bell, Carlsbad; five sons, J.C. Bell, Palestine, Tex.; George Bell, Forth Worth; Sterling Bell, Las Vegas, Nev.; Winston Bell, Las Vegas, Jerry Bell, Carlsbad; three daughters, Mrs. Iris Grandi, Carlsbad; Mrs. Helen Major, Las Vegas; Miss Joyce Laverne Bell, Palestine, Tex.; three brothers, Alton Bell, Lubbock, Tex.; Bascum Bell, Fort Worth, Dorwin Bell, Dallas; one sister, Mrs. Malda Welsh, Dallas; three stepchildren, Nancy Selman, Earl Selman and Richard Selman, all of Carlsbad, and 12 grandchildren.

Active pallbearers for the funeral will be A.W. Shepherd, Lloyd Garrett, Ray Powers, E.E. Tusha, Paul McGowan and A.Y. West.

Honorary pallbearers are L.O. Albright, Jim Robertson, Dr. Puckett, Dr. Sullivan, E.O. Spurlin, H.C. Harvey, Jack McGarry, George Carriker, Ralph Griffin, Curtis Myers and Harland Nifong.
