Lt. Col. Dale Anderson Shaver

GRAND CANE, LA. – Services for Lt. Col. Dale Anderson Shaver, USAF Ret., 69, of Grand Cane, La. will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, November 27, 1989 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Mansfield, La. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Wayne Evans, pastor of the Grand Kane Methodist Church, assisted by the Rev. George Harbuck, minister of visitation of the First United Methodist Church of Mansfield, and the Rev. William T. Crosby, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Mansfield. Graveside rites will be observed at 2 p.m. in the National Cemetery in Pineville, La.

Lt. Col. Shaver died at DeSoto General Hospital in Mansfield Saturday, November 25, 1989. He was a native of Grand Cane, La. and son of the late M. A. and Bessie Adams Shaver. He was a graduate of Grand Cane High School and LSU-Baton Rouge, La., where he was a member of the honorary fraternity Scabbard and Blade and was a distinguished military student having received honors in the ROTC as both Outstanding Cadet and Company Commander. He was also a graduate of a number of schools and colleges related to the military.

Lt. Col. Shaver's military career covered a wide span of activities starting as Company Commander in the Infantry, converting to the Air Force and serving as a pilot of B-17 aircraft during World War II in the European Theatre of operation, and afterwards continuing as commander of Air Force units involved in military related research, testing and teaching.

A Royal Arch and 32nd Degree Mason, also a Knights Templar and a member of the El Karubah Shrine, Shreveport, La. Lt. Col. Shaver had [been] a member of the National Association of Security Dealers, a Rotarian, a Board member of the American Lung Association of Louisiana, and a member of the Retired Officers Association. He had served as zone manager for Investors Diversified Services, Insurance and Securities. He was an enthusiastic supporter of the 390th Air Force Memorial Foundation, Tucson, Arizona and the LSU Baton Rouge, La. Foundation. He held contributing memberships in the Air Tower Museum in Framingham, England and in the 390th Air Force Museum in Tucson, Arizona, where his flight jacket will remain a memorial to his outstanding service. Lt. Col. Shaver was a student of military, bible and general history and was a member and former member of the Board of Stewards of the Grand Cane Methodist Church.

Visited by Martin Middlebrook, English author collecting information for his book, "The Schweinfurt-Regensburg Mission," 1982, Lt. Col. Shaver, a participant in the raid, was able to contribute vital facts. A proud patriot, his interest and concern for and about his country never wavered.

He is survived by his wife, Violet D. Shaver of Grand Cane; three children, David Shaver of Corpus Christi, Texas, Robin Eaton of Mansfield, La., and John Shaver of Shreveport, La.; three grandchildren, Travis Dale Shaver of Lafayette, La., Andrew Carlisle Eaton, and Brain Anthony Eaton, both of Mansfield.
