He was born Feb. 26, 1926, in Elkhart County, to William and Hazel (Miller) Gans. On May 10, 1947, he married Mary "Louise" Robinson in Elkhart. She died on June 22, 1987.
Surviving are one son, Michael (Brenda) Gans of Edwardsburg; one daughter, Shirley (Chuck) Lund of Otsego, Mich.; three granddaughters, Jennifer (Derek) Mitchell of Niles, Kimberly Gans of Edwardsburg and Amanda Frew of Lawrenceville, Ga.; and one sister, Ida Scherer of Mesa, Ariz.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday and one hour before the 11 a.m. Monday service at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home and Crematory, 700 E. Jackson Blvd., Elkhart. All times are Indiana times. Pastor Bob Renner of Granger Missionary Church will officiate. Burial will be in Adamsville Cemetery. Edwardsburg American Legion Post No. 365 will render graveside military honors.
A lifelong area resident, Mr. Gans enjoyed fishing. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 365 in Edwardsburg and Elkhart Moose Lodge No. 599. He was an Army World War II veteran. Mr. Gans retired from Miles Laboratories in 1977 after 31 years of service.
