Mrs. Bert (Hazel) Speelmon, 78, of Cherokee died Jan. 18 at Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. She was born December 25, 1894 in Cherokee and had been a resident of Cherokee all her life. The former Hazel Martin, she was married to Bert Speelmon on April 21, 1913.
Survivors include a son, Donald of Cherokee; two grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. James (Marian) Patterson of Cherokee and Mrs. Lorin (Evelyn) Witcraft, San Diego, Calif.; and three brothers, Reggie, Dale, and Wayne Martin, all of Cherokee.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on April 22, 1972; two brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home. Bill Poling will officiate and burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.”
