: Funeral services for retired state and local community leader George Grant Roane will be held Monday at 10:00 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Richmond. Roane, 80, died Friday at his home in Richmond. A native of Missouri City, he was a practicing attorney in state and federal courts for 50 years. His first steps to public office began with his election to the 44th Texas Texas State Legislature.
He was a member of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans and the Sons of American Revolution. He served as a director of Ft. Bend County Museum Association and as a board member of First City National Bank-Richmond.
He was also a member of the Richmond American Legion Post 567 and received numerous awards for his volunteer efforts in scouting programs.
He is survived by his wife, Toni Kneicz Roane; a daughter, Barbara Biel; a son, G. Grant Roane, and several grandchildren.
Returning to Richmond, he was elected and served as county attorney and judge. He served as state director of the Brazos River Authority and was appointed by Gov. Dolph Briscoe to serve as a member of the Advisory Board of the Criminal Justice Division of the State of Texas.
