Santos Joseph "Sanch" Guidici, a longtime resident of Tuolumne, died at a Sonora hospital Friday, May 9. He was 94.

He was born in Sheep Ranch and was the oldest of seven children. He relocated to Tuolumne at the age of 13 and lived there for 81 years. He worked at Standard Lumber Company Door Factory, which was located at the J.S. West hardware store in Sonora, formerly Hales & Symons. He continued in the lumber industry and worked for Westside Lumber in Tuolumne, and later worked for Pickering Lumber in Standard. He retired in 1973. After retirement, he worked for several years at Summerville Elementary School as a custodian.

He married Mary Borzini in 1929. Mr. Guidici was appointed the first male president of the PTA in Tuolumne, served on the board of trustees for Summerville High School for 12 years and held office for two terms as president of Italian Catholic Federation. As well as loving to hunt and fish, he liked to maintain his vegetable garden and make wine well into his 80s. He loved sports, especially baseball, and had played minor league for the Stockton Ports and Modesto Reds when he was young.

He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, ...; a son and daughter-in-law, ... two brothers, Baptiste Guidici of Tuolumne and Andy and wife, Dorothy Guidici, of Redwood City; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Mary Borzini, and four sisters, Vanise Smith, Marie Colombo, Julia Niskern and Louise "Babe" Henry of Indianapolis.

A funeral Mass is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Tuolumne. Visitation is scheduled from 5-7 p.m. tomorrow at Tuolumne Chapel, and a vigil will follow. A burial is scheduled following the Mass at Carter's Cemetery, Tuolumne.
