Born in Killyleagh, Co. Downs, Ireland in 1709. Married Elizabeth Herdman in 1746. Landed in WIlmington, DE on Mar. 25, 1790 then weent west to Harford Co., MD. His sons Francis, William and John cleared the wilderness and built homes in what became Mercer Co., PA in 1795. John moved there in 1799. He died in 1802. His grave marked the beginning of Rock Ridge Cemetery (now called Rocky Ridge Cemetery).
