Mervil Clara Saltzman was the third of eleven children born to William Henry and Sarah Elizabeth Kincheloe Saltzman. She was born Sep 28, 1892 and spent her life in Posey County. She was married twice, her first husband was Charles Johnson, they had four children, her second husband was William Phelps, they had two children.

She is survived by her mother Sarah Saltzman, R.R. 1 Mt. Vernon; Sisters Sylvia Ackerman, R.R. 1 Mt. Vernon; Amy C. Strean, R.R. 1 Mt. Vernon; Yettive Hancock, R.R. 1 Mt. Vernon; Brothers Horace Saltzman, Tulare, Ca; Jesse Saltzman, Evansville, In; Vogel Saltzman R.R. 3 Mt. Vernon; Harold Saltzman, Tulare, Ca; and Eldon Saltzman, Mt. Vernon. Her children Charlene Johnson, Meck Johnson, and Pauline Johnson; Jamia Phelps and Ronald Phelps. She is preceded in death by her father William Henry Saltzman, sisters Beulah Oliver, and Ida Rae Biggerstaff; and her son Alwyn Johnson who was killed in World War II.

Services will be held at Bellefontaine Cemetery where she will be interred.
