Rev. Howard M. Adolf, pastor of Sacred Heart Church in Dunkirk at the time of his death at the age of 59, graduated from St. Mary's High School in Lancaster, then graduated from Canisius College and prepared for the priesthood at the Canisianum seminary in Innsbruck, Austria. He was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Buffalo, New York on April 2, 1933.

He was the son of Joseph R. and Anna Adolf.

His assignments included St. Nicholas, Buffalo, St. Louis, Buffalo, St. Mary, Lancaster and St. Mary of Sorrows, Buffalo. He served a total of 12 years as assistant and then administrator of St. Mary Church in Lancaster. From 1958 to 1960 he served as pastor of St. Mary, Strykersville, New York.

Survived by mother Anna, two brothers Richard and Everett, and two sisters Janet and Virginia.
