Allen Barber, a Wellington resident 41 years, died in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Amarillo Wednesday, May 23. He had been in an Amarillo hospital about a year. Mr. Barber was born at Jefferson March 25, 1911. He was married to Gertie Armstrong Boyd on October 28, 1943. A veteran of World War II, he had combat service in Germany, and at the end of the war was awarded a Campaign Medal, three Bronze Stars, and the World War II Victory Medal. He received his discharge from the Army in 1945. Wellington had been his home since that time. Mr. Barber was an active member of Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church as long as his health permitted, and was a former member of the Masonic Lodge.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Gertie Barber; four sons: Robert Allen Barber and Claude Barber of Phoenix, Arizona; Elder Jimmie Barber of Wellington and Glenn Curtis Barber of Amarillo; two daughters and two step-daughters: Jeanetta Clinton of Amarillo; Gwendolyn Barber of Wellington, Florence Dyson of Lakewood, Calif., and Elizabeth Dicky of Artesia, N.M. There are 21 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
