James Gagel was born in Hartford, CT in 1885. He was a bugler during the Spanish American War. He and his first wife Janet had a son, Robert J. Gagel, born February 19, 1918. His wife Janet died in Hartford in 1920 from TB. He remarried Katherine Gogarty from Windsor Locks, CT and they lived in Hartford where James was a Painter by trade. Katherine died in 1953 and shortly thereafter James moved to Pontiac, Michigan to live with his son Robert and family. He died of pneumonia on July 13, 1974, and was given a full military funeral upon burial in Perry Mount Park Cemetery, Pontiac, MI.
