Rev. Henry, Dorothy, and their children left England in 1637 and settled first in the New Haven Colony. They were founders of Guilford where he was the first minister remaining there for 20 years and returning to England in 1650. Dorothy remained in Guilford and continued to live in the stone house built by her husband. Three of the daughters were married in New England, the other children lived with her, but Mary & Nathaniel were with their father in England when he died. She managed his estate in Guilford and in 1659, Dorothy Whitfield returned to England remaining there until her death in 1669.
