A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for William "Bill" Arthur Fogarty, 71, at 10 a.m. Thursday at Marine Memorial Chapel, Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base. He died Sunday of cancer at his home in Sun City.

Miller-Jones Mortuary in Sun City is handling the arrangements. Burial will be in Riverside National Cemetery.

Mr. Fogarty, who was born in Cleveland, Ohio, lived in Sun City for five years. He served with the Navy during World War II and with the Marine Corps during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was decorated repeatedly for valor. He retired from the Marine Corps as a master sergeant after serving more than 26 years with the military.

In his youth he was a bat boy with the Cleveland Indians. As an amateur boxer, he won the Golden Gloves in Cleveland. He also fought 14 professional fights before enlisting and boxing in the Navy.

He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed going on camping and fishing trips to the High Sierras with his wife. His hobbies also included creating inventions.

Mr. Fogarty is survived by his wife of 49 years, Irene; four sons, Bill of Irvine, Ken and Greg, both of Singletree, Colo., and Ron of San Juan Capistrano; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
