Robert V. Jurgens
Age 80, of Manhattan, died Wednesday, June 26, 2002 at Silver Cross Hospital, Joliet. Survived by two daughters, Pam (Joe) Shanley of Ottawa, IL, and Cindy (Dave) Hostert of Marley, IL. One son, Kevin Jurgens of Tinley Park. Eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Dear special friend and companion, Bonnie Rauworth of Manhattan. Two brothers, Eugene (Maxine) Jurgens of Arthur, IL, and Melvin (Bonnie) Jurgens of Grand Junction, Colorado.
    Preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Kathleen nee Romine. One daughter, Vicki Jurgens.
    Robert graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Education. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII in both the European and Pacific Theaters. He spent his entire teaching career at Serena High School and Joliet Junior College. He was instrumental in implementing the Agriculture Business curriculum at JJC. He loved to golf and travel, and he was an avid fisherman and hunter. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends debating the current issues.
    Robert V. Jurgens will lie in state from 10:30 a.m. until time of service, 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2002 at St. Pauls United Church of Christ, 140 Thelma St., Manhattan. Rev. Carol Currier-Frighetto officiating. Interment Manhattan Center Cemetery. Memorials to the American Brain Tumor Association. Visitation Friday, 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Forsythe Funeral Chapel, 320 Eastern Avenue, Manhattan.
