The former Madgelena Kautzer was born in St. Nazianz March 31, 1900, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Kautzer, and on June 6, 1922 she was married to Norbert Berchem at St. Gregory's Catholic Church, St. Nazianz. Mrs. Berchem lived in New Holstein the past 43 years.
She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and the Christian Mothers Society of the church.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Robert of Sheboygan and Alvin of New Holstein; nine grandchildren; three brothers, John of Kiel, Edmund of New Holstein and Joseph of St. Nazianz, and six sisters, Mrs. Paul Leonard of Cleveland, Mrs. John Lechler, Mrs. Roland Schnell and Mrs. Elmer Dedering all of Kiel, Mrs. Freida Schnell of Valders, and Mrs. Felix Bushmann of Manitowoc.
