He was a Mason, a Shriner, a member of the Brooklet Kiwanis Club. He was a member of the Georgia Medical Assn. and the American Medical Assn. and of the Brooklet Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Sara Elizabeth Cone McElveen of Brooklet, three daughters, Mrs. Foy Wilson of Statesboro, Mrs. Lanier Hardman of Covington and Miss Louise McElveen of Brooklet; two sons, W. E. McElveen of Statesboro and J. M. McElveen Jr. of Savannah; seven grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Georgia Bunce of Statesboro and several nieces and nephews.
