Mr. Looman first joined the United States Marine Corps. in April of 1926. He saw shore duty at Mare Island, San Diego, and Pearl Harbor. He saw sea duty on the USS Chaumont and was discharged in April of 1930 at Mare Island Naval Shipyard. He was awarded the USMC Good Conduct medal upon his discharge.
