James Newton Burton was born April 4, 1927, the son of the late Luke and Lucy Tuggle Burton, in the Faubush community of Pulaski County. He departed this life Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at the Wayne County Hospital, reaching an age of 89 years.

He is survived by his children: Barbara and husband Gary Dick, Philip and his wife Patty Burton and Joanna and husband Brian Jones.

Surviving are his grandchildren: Ashley Dunnington, Emilee Burton, Wesley Dick, Keri Foy, Lindsey Schott, Logan Jones and Erica Roschek; great grandchildren: Olivia, Miles and Vivienne Foy, Avery and Emerson Roschek.

James was the last surviving member of the Luke Burton family. He is preceded in death by his siblings: Audean Denney, Cecil, Wendell and Kenneth Burton.

James had accepted Christ as his Savior and was an active and faithful member of the Fall Creek Baptist Church.
