Services for William Duward Barnes, 98, of Chandler, are scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 26, 2014, at 2 p.m. at West Lake Baptist Church with the Rev. Lee Evans officiating. Burial will be in LaRue Cemetery under direction of Chandler Memorial Funeral Home.

Mr. Barnes passed away Oct. 21, 2014, in Tyler. He was born June 5, 1916, in Electra to the late Oscar Lee and Iva Barnes. He retired from Simmons Mattress Company where he worked for 43 years. He was the first president of the union at the mattress company and was skilled in every department. He was an avid bowler, bird hunter and deer hunter, and loved playing softball. He was also a big Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers fan. He sang in the Singing Saints at West Lake Baptist Church as well as the church choir.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife of 51 years, Audrey Faye.

He is survived by son, William Thomas "Buster" Barnes and wife Carolyn, of Garvin, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Jeff Barnes, Scott Barnes, Tommy Barnes and Kris Jones, as well as 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Barnes, Scott Barnes, Hamilton Leech, Charles McQuaid, Jim Stanley and Billy Pyle. Honorary pallbearers will be Lawrence Talbert, and Herb Richardson.

Visitation will be Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
