Jewell Belle Hamilton was born on May 2, 1898 to John Albert Hamilton and Stella Montrose 'Rosie' Franklin at Greenville, Hunt Co, Texas. Jewell was the oldest of four children, the others being, Opal Elizabeth(1903), Ana(1907) and John Woodrow(1911).
On October 8, 1919 Jewell married Rufus Oran Weems the son of John William Weems and Florence Luella Craig. In 1920 they had an infant child, born September 2, that died the same day, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Oklahoma. Don't know why it was born in Oklahoma City as they were living with Rufus's parents in Carmel, Jackson Co, Oklahoma then. In 1922 they had a son named Weston Eulan and in 1924 another son named Vincent Edgar. They were still living in Carmel, Jackson Co, Oklahoma.
In 1930 they were living in Fletcher, Comanche, Co, Oklahoma. When World War II broke out their youngest son Vincent was inducted in to the U.S. Navy Reserves. He was classed as a Seaman Second Class. Not sure what date it was when he went in, but sometime later, they were informed, that on June 16, 1945, their son was missing in action.
Rufus died on December 10, 1968. He was buried in Chillicothe Cemetery. It possible that Jewell and Rufus divorced after Vincent died, as on Rufus's Texas Death Index, it listed his marital status as single.
Not sure just when Jewell went to California, but that is where she is listed as having died, with Barstow, San Bernardino, California as her last residence for social security. She died February 16, 1983 in San Bernardino, California. She is believed to be buried at Chillicothe Cemetery also.
