Norbert Schmitz, 85, formerly of 2018 Van Buren St., New Holstein, and a resident of Calumet Homestead in New Holstein since October 1980, died there Saturday, April 4.

Mr. Schmitz was born in Marytown on January 5, 1986, son of Peter and Mary Schmitz. He attended schools in Marytown and farmed in that area until 1956. He then was employed by Kestell Furniture Co., retiring in 1975. He was married to Olive Karls on November 20, 1917 in Marytown. Mrs. Schmitz died July 3, 1978. Mr. Schmitz was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, New Holstein, and its Holy Name Society.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Norbert (Laynilda) Ehlenbeck of Route 2, New Holstein; four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters.

Funeral services were at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Rev. Ralph Hermsen, pastor, officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
