She was born on May 28, 1904, in Stockbridge, a daughter of Joseph and Theresa O'Donnel Ruffing. She attended school in Stockbridge and graduated from Oshkosh Normal College. On June 19, 1928, she married John Winkler at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Stockbridge.
Mrs. Winkler was a teacher in a one-room schoolhouse. She was a member of Holy Rosary Church in New Holstein, and was a former member of the Christian Women's Society.
Survivors include one son, David (Adeline) Winkler of St. Cloud; one daughter, Jacqueline (John) Zimmermann of Chetek; one daughter-in-law, Barbara (Ernest) Merten of Mount Calvary; 19 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Marie Winkler of Plymouth and Florence Hochholzer of Neenah.
Preceding her in death were her husband, John, in May 1987; one granddaughter; her parents; two brothers and three sisters.
Services: A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in New Holstein. The Rev. Peter Kutch, OFM Cap., will officiate. Burial will be at the parish cemetery. Visitation: From 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to the time of brief family rites at 10 a.m. Monday at Sippel Funeral Home in New Holstein. The Christian Women's Society will recite the rosary at 5:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. A memorial fund in her name will be established.
