FUNERAL SET FOR MITCHELL SOLDIER
COLORADO CITY, MARCH 31, ~~ Funeral service for Sgt. Hiram Washington (Dub) Venus, Mitchell county soldier who died unexpectedly at Kingman, Arizona, while taking part in regular physical exercise was to have been set for 4 p.m. Friday at Payne Chapel Baptist Church. The Rev. G.W. Parks of Roscoe, Rev. J.C. Koen of Buford and Rev. Temple Lewis of Monahans were to officiate. Burial was to be in Colorado City Cemetery with Kiker and Son directing arrangements.
Sergeant Venus was born in Mitchell County February 18, 1921, was a graduate of Colorado High School and had been in the Army Air Corps since September, 1942. He was stationed at Kingman as an instructor in aerial gunnery and was apparently in good health at the time of his death. Exact causes of his collapse have not been learned by his family here but a heart attack is believed to have been responsible.
