William died on December 11, 1898, and Sallie's family was living on the Hardy family farm in Weogufka , also an unincorporated community in Coosa County, for the 1900 US Census. Sallie married Benjamin Dorsey Stewart on the 5th of February 1902, and they would establish residence in Sylacauga, Talladega County.
Benjamin worked for the railroad in Sylacauga, where he eventually became a foreman. Around 1925, Benjamin returned to farming on a family farm in rural Talladega County. The couple would have seven children.
