Argel Francis McCann was born in Buffalo township, Linn County, Iowa, Feb 7, 1876, and excepting nine years spent in Minnesota, where he leaves a host of friends, has spent his life in and near Waubeek. He came back here from Minnesota Nov 20, 1926, because it was his mother's wish to return to her own home here, and he had always been a kind and devoted son. His mother passed away Feb 27, 1927. His father preceded her June 25, 1923. Also a brother, Philip Judson, and a sister, Hazel Dena, had gone before. Those left to mourn his going are two brothers, Burton Truman of Waubeek, and Patrick Earl of Minnesota; one sister, Mrs Nettie Mahala Bates of Hartland, Minnesota, and a number of nephews and nieces besides a number of other relatives and friends. Arg, as he was familiarly known, has not been in good health for some time, but it came as a shock to his many friends when the news came that he suffered a stroke of paralysis Thursday morning, December 8. He was about as usual on Wednesday and attended the Calvert sale where he made some purchases. Arg was generous to a fault, and no one ever asked for aid from him, in vain. He was a loyal friend of the improvement society and has aided them in many ways. But his work here is finished and he was called and passed to the life beyond Dec 8, 1927 at 11:30 pm. Funeral services were held in Waubeek church at 1:30, Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev William F Winfrey, pastor of the Baptist church at Central City. Burial was in the Jordan's Grove Cemetery.
