John Devine, Retired Farmer Dies

John W. Devine, 83, long a farmer of the Ryan community passed away Tuesday at Rippon nursing home in Manchester following a long illness. Mr. Devine farmed until moving to Ryan in 1930, and continued working until 1952 when he retired.
He was born Aug 16, 1875 in Hazel Green township, the son of Patrick H. and Catherine B. Mulvehill Devine. He attended rural schools.
Mr. Devine never married.
Survivors include two brother James J. and William both of Ryan; a sister Mrs. Art (Katherine) Lyness also of Ryan and a number of nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents, three sisters and one brother.
The Rosary was recited Wednesday at 8 p.m. at the Gill funeral home and will be recited today (Thursday) at 8 p.m. at the family residence in Ryan. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday in St. Patrick's church, Ryan, with the Rev. William Devine conducting the solemn high requiem mass and the Revs. Edmund Cooney and Wm. T. Schwartz as deacons.
Burial will be made in Calvary cemetery in Ryan.
