Started up One Shot Mining in Lower Lake, the beginning of the Modern-day Homestake Gold Mine. Started the Clearlake Cinema, a two-screen movie theater for the City of Clearlake. Donated the land for the building of the new Highlands Senior Service and Community Center in Clearlake. He did well and gave back.

Bill had a construction company in Redwood City California. Moved to Lake County circa 1965. Bought the Manhattan Mine one of, if not the last operating Mercury Mine in the USA. Mercury prices crashed with the mercury scare in the late 1970s'. An independent company came a knocking and asked to test his mine for heat. Mercury is found around hot ground. With the idea of a developing a geothermal power plant. The land did not generate enough heat for geothermal, but the company wanted to buy Bills' land. Bill was not interested in selling. After numerous visits and over numerous months. The company realized that Bill was not going to sell his land. The company then told Bill that they found Gold in their samples. Bill then signed a contract and Home Stake mining came in and started mining.

Bill was a veracious reader and self taught in numerous areas.
