Her mother died at a young age and she had to help raise her siblings. She worked as a housekeeper and met Herman C. Fuqua. They were married September 6, 1924. They lived in a small house on Cherry Street near Crystal Beach. They had four children, three daughters and one son. Mabel went to work for the Pollyanna Cafe and would take a taxi 5:30 a.m. every morning. She could remember orders without writting them down, but never learned how to drive. Herman and Mabel divorced and she married George V. Bingham on April 17, 1949. George also worked at the Pollyanna as a cook. He had built a new house after the 1947 Tornado had distroyed his. He also had a car and enjoyed taking the family to Boiling Springs. George passed away on August 7, 1966 during a visit to New Mexico.
