From the Palm Beach Post, 21 May 1943:

The body of Miss Blanche Hickman, who died Thursday morning in a local hospital following an extended illness, will be sent tonight to Cincinnati for funeral services and burial, accompanied by the sister, Mrs. E. W Lynd and daughter Katharine. Miss Hickman taught school on government Indian reservations until her retirement in 1940 when she moved to West Palm Beach. She resided at Seton Hall on Wenonah Place.

Other survivors are two nieces, Mrs. John F. Hoffmann, Atlanta; and Mrs. Samuel Bell, Clarion, Iowa. Mizell-Simon had charge of arrangements.

Miss Katharine Lynd of West Palm Beach, Florida wrote this biography of her 'Aunt Bobbie' shortly after Bobbie's death.

Miss Blanche Hickman, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, a daughter of William Henry and Alicia Leslie Knott Hickman, entered the U.S. Government Indian Service in 1905 and for 33 years devoted her life to teaching the Indian children. Her job was to take the tiniest ones, and they really were tiny since they were sent to the schools at the age of 3 or 4 years. She taught kindergarten, first, and second grades. Since the tots seldom spoke English, it was her duty to teach them, but she was not permitted to speak in their language. She held positions in many of the Indian Boarding Schools in the West. Her first school was at Fort Spokane, Washington, where she remained for several years. Then she was transferred to the Cheyanne Agency in South Dakota. She also served as teacher at White Earth, MN, Pine Ridge and Mission S.Dakota, Anadarko and Gotebo, OK, and Fort Defiance, AZ. Her work was a great joy to her and she retired in 1936, regretting the fact that due to her age, she could no longer serve her dear Indian friends. In November, 1940, Aunt Bobbie moved to West Palm Beach, Florida where she lived until her death May 16, 1943 from cancer at age 72.
