James W. Shuman, 53, of 27 Monica Blvd. died Monday at Forest Hills Veteran Administration Hospital in Augusta after a long illness. The Bulloch County native had lived in Savannah several years and was a member of Savannah Primitive Baptist Church. He was employed by King's Appliance as a salesman until his retirement due to ill health. He was a veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Betty Akins Shuman of Savannah; a daughter, Mrs. Lynn S. Butler of Boston, Mass.; his mother, Mrs. Burl E. Beasley of Brooklet; a brother, Edwin B. Shuman of Honolulu, Hawaii; a sister, Mrs. Elouise Beasley of Brooklet; three stepbrothers, Brooks Beasley of Jacksonville, Fla., Ellis Beasley of Bloomingdale and Elmore Beasley of Savannah; and two stepsisters, Mrs. Bette Anderson and Mrs. Euena Wilson, both of Savannah.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. today at Smith-Tillman Mortuary in Statesboro, with burial in Brooklet City Cemetery.
