Ferne A. Pelkey May 14, 1922-Feb. 19, 2011
Ferne A. Pelkey, 88, of LaSalle passed away Sat., Feb. 19, 2011 at Fountain View of Monroe, where she had been for one week.
She had recently moved back from California, where she had lived since 1970, to live with her daughter, Becky (Charles) McCollum.
Born May 14, 1922 in South Bend, Ind., she was the daughter of Harrison and Pearl Atha. She married Carl Pelkey Sept. 18, 1971 in San Diego, Calif.
Ferne was a sales representative for Avon-Shaklee and also managed a mobile home park in California before retiring in 2000. She enjoyed crocheting, traveling, playing cards, swimming and playing tennis.
She was preceded in death by three sisters and her parents.
Survivors include her husband Carl Pelkey of LaSalle; daughters Nancy (Richard) Shirley of Fillmore, Calif. and Becky (Charles) McCollum of LaSalle, Mich.; sons Russell (Charlotte) Launer of East Lansing, Mich. and Courtney Launer of Perry, Mich.; several nieces and nephews, 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren
At the request of the family, private services have all ready taken place. Interment at LaSalle Cemetery. Bennett Funeral Service in charge of arrangements.
A public memorial service will be 11 a.m. Sun., March 6, 2011 at Faith Baptist Church, 2266 Sandy Creek Rd., Monroe, with the Rev. Charles McCollum officiating.
